LOCK HAVEN - Clinton County has officially joined America250 PA, an organization that's gearing up to celebrate the United States' 250th Anniversary in 2026.

The commissioners unanimously adopted a resolution regarding the move and heard from America250 representative Cassandra Coleman, executive director of America250PA.

"We are so proud to continue to grow the momentum," Coleman said of the organization. "I've actually been in this role for five years."

Coleman said, as a former borough mayor, she understands the importance of including every municipality throughout the state in the 250th celebration.

"We are proud to say that over the next week we will only have one county left to pass the resolution," she said. "We're really, really proud to say that we are growing in the right direction."

Board Chair Miles Kessinger said he received a call from State Representative Kerry Benninghoff in Bellefonte about the commissioners passing the resolution.

"I got a call from Benninghoff in Centre County thanking us for passing this resolution," Kessinger said.

Benninghoff is actively involved in the America250PA planning, Coleman noted.

At Monday's work session, Voter Registrar Maria Boileau touched on America250PA's goal that is based on four pillars - Education, Preservation, Innovation and Celebration.

At the time, Boileau noted the county would be putting together a committee of local individuals to work on how Clinton County can celebrate the semiquincentennial in 2026.

"We're forming a voluntary Clinton County Commission to work hand-in-hand with America250PA on local activities," a release from the commissioners said.

Those interested in joining should contact Boileau at mboileau@clintoncounypa.gov to learn more.

In other business the commissioners:

- Approved a Memorandum of Understanding between the county and Debra Reitz to provide chaplain services for the Clinton County Correctional Facility, effective Aug. 1, at a cost of $50 per week. Reitz replaces the former chaplain, Hope Mitchell, who passed away, Kessinger said.
