Did you know that Pennsylvania law requires you to have a Manure Management Plan?

That's right. Anyone that has livestock, even one horse, is required by the State to have a written Manure Management Plan. The reason for this is because one mature horse can produce up to 61 pounds of manure each day. That's eleven (11) tons a year! The good news is, you do not need to be a Certified Nutrient Management Planner to write a manure plan for your backyard horse and pasture and the Clinton County Conservation District is happy to assist you with the effort.

Not only are we willing to help you meet the law, we're offering an incentive. We're giving away bags of horse pasture grass seed and forage oat seed to the first ten (10) folks who contact us and volunteer to work with us to develop a manure plan for the horses you keep. The first five (5) horse owners to volunteer will receive a 25lb bag of mixed pasture grasses (Farm Science Genetics Professional Horse Pasture Mixture; contains orchard grass, rye grass, timothy, festulolium & Kentucky bluegrass). The second five (5) horse owners to volunteer will receive a 25lb bag of forage oats (Seedway KARA forage oats). To be eligible for this give away, you must be a Clinton County resident who does not currently have a manure management plan for the horses you keep in your backyard pasture. The goal is to assist small-time horse owners with small backyard pastures.

Obtaining a Manure Plan for your horse is a quick and easy process! It should take less than an hour of your time. You can work with one of our Agricultural Resource Conservationists either via Zoom or in person.
