County doles out Liquid Fuels money

Post Date:05/21/2021 11:15 AM

LOCK HAVEN - Liquid Fuels and Community Development Block Grant funding was at the top of the list of items handled by the Clinton County commissioners at their meeting Thursday morning.

The commissioners approved 2021 Liquid Fuels funding to three municipalities:

- Crawford Township for completion of the Pine-Loganton Road, $68,252.

- Flemington Borough for work on South Hillview Street in the amount of $1,830.

- Loganton Borough for work on Hall Street and West Anthony Street, at a cost of $6,000.

Meanwhile Kari Kepler of the county planning office updated the commissioners on this year's coronavirus business assistance grants available through Community Development Block Grant funds.

Kepler said the initial grant was for $165,000 and $84,000 was awarded during the first round. That leaves $81,000 to be distributed during the second round, she said. Applications will open at 8 a.m. today and the winners of the money directed to small businesses in Clinton County outside of Lock Haven city limits will be announced by June 14. Kepler noted that the city of Lock Haven gets its own money through this program.

The board acted on numerous personnel matters, including:

- The resignation of Deputy Warden Jason Kormanic, who has accepted the position of warden at the Mufflin County Correctional Facility, effective May 31.

- The resignations of Melissa Fernburg, deputy sheriff, effective June 4, and Stephanie Toner, administrative assistant in the sheriff's department, effective June 1.

- The hiring of Richard Greene, Herbert Probst and Robert Tressler as part-time security officers in the sheriff's department at the rate of $12 per hour, not to exceed 1,000 hours, effective May 24.

- Promotion of Brian Walizer to certified deputy sheriff with a salary increase to $31,354, effective May 17.

- The resignation of Kooch Choo as a part-time security officer in the sheriff's department effective May 20.

Commissioner Angela Harding reminded residents that masking is still required for those who are not fully vaccinated. She said 33 to 34 percent of the county is vaccinated. However, she said the virus is still spreading with Clinton County's positive rate higher than Centre and Lycoming counties.

Commissioner Miles Kessinger reported that beginning on Thursday, June 3, the county commissioners meetings will be held face-to-face outside the Piper building in the pavilion. He said the meetings will continue to be bi-weekly with work sessions on Mondays at 9 a.m. and voting sessions at 10 a.m. Thursdays. Kessinger said the meetings will also continue to be live-streamed via Zoom.
